This simple tune turned out to be a lot of work in the end, as I decided to try to emulate a ‘real’ performance using a part that was quantised (for speed of working!?). In the end, it would probably have been easier to spend more time learning to play it convincingly. However, I did come across some useful techniques on the way, chief of which was creating a two-bar tempo pattern that I cut and pasted across the entire track. The first bar speeds up slightly, the second slows. I chose this after analysing what happened when I played the part in real time. I then applied a little ‘groove template’ quantisation, using a template that pushes the beat slightly, resulting in a slight ‘hang’, similar to how I would naturally play. .
