Composer's Blog
This is another piece built around a piano riff, which allows the other parts to move around it without sounding ‘wrong’. The riff suggests a scale, so that when the bass and melody parts move around, so long as they keep within this tonality, the riff never sounds out of place. This is very much the way Moby applies different harmonies to his sample loops.
The overriding effect, even when quite busy drum loops are then added, is actually quite mellow and the result might be termed ‘ambient’ or ‘chill-out’ music. This was mostly an exercise in trying out different textures, using synths, loops and more piano. One of the loops doesn’t quite fit and some of the tonal movement is a little clunky but there’s the basis of something here.
