This one started as a simple idea on the piano, which I thought would translate nicely to strings. That was
true but in attempting to copy parts from the piano track to the individual string parts, I ran into all sorts of
pit-falls. These are mostly to do with controller information being recorded on different MIDI channels and
being inadvertently copied to the wrong parts. This resulted in overlapping notes causing MIDI cut-off,
conflicting CC1 messages (which for Garritan instruments is not good) and other general mayhem.
Never mind. The pearl of wisdom I was going to impart was to do with creating a part on a piano track and
copying elements from that into individual string (and or other instrumental) parts to create a quick
arrangement. Well it nearly worked but with the aforementioned mistakes. As for the piece itself, I was
playing with the simple idea of starting with a single note and gradually extending the harmony, which was
pleasing in itself. Were I to extend this piece, I would want to take it off into new harmonic territory, using
the ambiguity of the internal harmony.
