Well here we go again: finally back in the driving seat and pleased to be back. Here’s a loosener to get things going (sorry, I have the test match on in the background), which although is rather reminiscent of previous tracks, I think is fun.
Part of the reason for my little break in transmission has been that I’ve upgraded my studio software and this has provided me with some nice new soft synths and samples to play with. One sample patch that grabbed my attention is featured here. It’s a whole keyboard of very playable vocal samples that I couldn’t resist going to town with. The technique used is similar to Moby’s favourite trick of taking one or more samples and moving a chord progression around beneath. This means that the same sample can take on a different characteristic as the backing shifts behind it.
