You know what they say: less is more. I like the inherent tension in repeating a single note: the relationships between it and everything that surrounds it become very sharply focussed. Furthermore, when - as in this case – there is just a single instrument playing, the dynamics of the performance seem to take on a huge amount of significance.
The very simple harmonic movement in this piece has, to my ear, an optimistic flavour and would, I think, be very well suited to a touching, emotionally-driven film sequence. I like the fact that the repeated tone feels like it should move to the leading note at the end of each phrase but remains resolutely where it is, leaving a hint of something unresolved.
