Following the past few days’ mayhem, I thought I’d do something a little more ‘composed’ for today. It’s quite a sentimental, gentle little number and would probably suit a drama or romantic comedy quite well.
Starting with the piano, I wanted to keep things light and simple, so have avoided any bass in the piano part. It then seemed inevitable to have some high strings to increase the yearning by doubling the harmony, with all its suspensions and shifts. Some bass does creep in but just on cellos (rather than double basses), so there is some foundation but no heaviness. I’ve also mixed in a little choir during the middle section, to add a llittle more ethereal quality to the mix.
