Today’s piece is another loop-based thing, this time a little more jazzy in the harmony, with a hint of jungle
(I think?)
Again, the piano was the starting point. What I tend to do is find an initial idea on the piano, as this gives
me the framework in terms of tempo, rhythm, harmony and melody. Then I find sounds to place against
that, which often take me off into another direction from that anticipated.
In this case, the drum loop was added first, which immediately provided a groove that suggested a certain
style. As with yesterday’s piece, this was supplemented by a filtered ambient synth sound, which gives a
bubbling pedal that brings in the possibility of other harmony due to the shifting overtones within the sound.
The piano initially carried the melody but I wanted to bring this out further, so added the quirky lead synth,
which has the mod-wheel programmed to play octaves and led to me making the subtle octave slides
something of a feature.
