This is another track that seemed to be slipping from my grasp but which I feel I've somewhat rescued.
There's a lesson to be learnt here: if you keep working at something, you will invariably find an echo of the
original spark that kicked the whole thing off in the first place (mixed metaphors anyone...?).
I started, as often, with a chord progression and rhythmic motif on the piano, to which I added the opening
drum loop. The loop itself fitted the piano but was a little ordinary, so I applied some modulation to spice
things up a little. Then I realised that the progression was not quite as straight forward as it at first seemed
and decided to use a harsh, cutting lead synth to make the most of the melody. To warm things up, I
supported this with a generic synth pad. A second rhythm loop was added to crisp things up beneath the
melody and then lastly came the harmony lead synth, using a different patch.
I applied some quite over the top compression (in fact two separate types) to the whole mix, to deliberately
distort the mix and enhance the energy. I think the result sounds like a TV theme, which would suit
something like a Top-Gear style program.
