This one seemed quite simple at the outset but with single instruments, as opposed to whole sections, it’s
relatively demanding trying to get them to sit well together (Should have paid more attention in music
theory?.). I like the sound of the solo cello against the piano and doubling the cello with violin at the octave
makes a pleasing contrast. The viola acts as a kind of glue between them and I find it interesting to have
the cello playing melody instead of a bass line. Perhaps on the repeat it would be an idea to introduce a
bass line in the cello.
The overriding mood seems reflective, with a sense of personal history, hence the title. I feel a slight
Eastern European influence as well, which made me dream up the name ‘Mielek’. Pleasingly, this turns out
to be Hungarian - amazing thing the subconscious mind.
