Here's a simple piano and flute sketch. The piano part incorporates an ostinato in the right hand over
shifting arpeggios in the left and follows familiar harmonic territory, with a shift from minor to major in the
B part.
The flute part was then improvised over the top and done in one take with no edits, mostly due to lack of
time but also as I like to put myself on the spot in that way and have to live with the consequences. I was
quite interested in working with the audio and have EQ-ed the piano slightly to make space in the upper-mid
range where the flute sits. I've also cut the top treble and bottom end of the flute, largely to alleviate
mechanical noise and also to focus on the sweet part of the flute's sound.
There is a synced delay on the flute, which I often use with this instrument. By having it synced to the
underlying tempo, it is rendered largely transparent, even though there is actually quite a lot of it. The
effect is then more like a reverb but without the muddying that heavy reverb can produce.
