As I’ve experimented with before, I took a piano improv, that was made without any click or quantisation,
then quantised to the default tempo, so that notes would be forced into patterns that weren’t necessarily
those played but which would make some kind of sense against applied loops. I found a nice drum loop and
added a second loop of echoey reversed rhythm sounds and combined these with a beat-box loop.
Having originally had a rhythm intro, I decided to drag the piano to the start of the piece, since it opens in
quite a sparse way anyway. I then decided to see what would happen when I reintroduced a copy of the
piano in its original location after two bars. In order to disguise the literal repetition, I applied slightly
different quantisation to each piano and also used Garritan’s duet pianos, so there are two different piano
samples, panned somewhat left and right. To one of these, I also applied a little bit of an unusual MIDI
echo, which actually adds some discreet arpeggios. The whole thing has had some compression added and
there is a little delay across the stereo as well to help bind everything. The pianos have some reverb added
to distance them a little from the rhythm tracks.
