I like this one: I think it’s very ‘me’ (though I’m not too sure what that means) and I had a lot of fun
creating it.
It’s my oft-used piano/loops/synths method that tends to reap quick and satisfying results – for me in any
case. This one began with the little piano motif, which oscilates in a fairly dischordant way, allowing for
darkness and beats to accompany quite happily. I found the bubbly, watery loop to accompany the piano
and then decided the piano sound was too clean, so added some effected guitar to double it. That loop
begged for some driving drums and they in turn led me to find some more messed-up drums to provide
contrast. I then spent a happy hour or so going through all my favourite synths to find intersting sounds to
accompany. First came the deep, growling bass, then the breathy, hollow synth sound, then the bird-like
effect. All of these were used repetitively to build up the phrases, then I found the guitar loop to add some
punctuation and lastly the bendy lead synth for a little bit of melodic interest (minimal as it is).
I’ve applied an idiosynchratic echoey reverb to the whole mix, which seems to bind everything together
nicely, whilst adding some extra character
